Van Metre Companies held the 2nd Annual Taste of Broadlands after the 16th Annual Van Metre Five-Mile Run for Children's Hospital on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Broadlands Marketplace. Located in eastern Loudoun County, Broadlands is a nature-focused, master-planned community created by Van Metre Companies that has won numerous awards for community planning and design.
This year, the race was moved from the Broadlands Nature Center to Broadlands Marketplace. The Taste of Broadlands took place on the Glory Days patio and included many of the Broadlands Marketplace restaurants, with their specialties available for all to taste. Participating restaurants included: Glory Days, Callaloo Cuisine, American Flatbread, Dominos Pizza, and Hunan Café.
Various Marketplace tenants donated food and beverages to the record 765 runners and their spectators this year. Harris Teeter donated bottled water, bananas, apples, and ice cream. Robeks handed out Fruit Smoothies, while Clydes Willow Creek Farm had fruit, yogurt and rice crispy treats available. Starbucks donated coffee and McDonalds also participated by giving away cinnamon buns, tea and coffee.
Other participants included Van Metre Broadlands Apartments, and I9 Sports who provided racers and guests with the opportunity to register for youth flag football. All registrations were discounted $25 and participants received free movie tickets to Narnia Prince Caspian complements of Disney Pictures and I9 Sports. |
